A blackout fabric is a drapery fabric that has a special backing or coating applied to the reverse side. When used at the window the backing completely blocks the light that could otherwise penetrate through the fabric resulting in darkness of the room. This backing is usually in the form of an acrylic foam and applied in 3 ‘passes’; first a layer of white, followed by black, and then sealed with white again.
